Canterra Musica is the Ambassador Ensemble of the Oberlin Choristers. This choir has a culture of passionate singing, hard work, artistic and engaging performances, and a supportive, fun envitornment to learn.
Canterra Musica (Cantate = Sing + Terra = Earth) lives out it's name by learning music from around the globe that helps teach varied vocal styles and sounds and opening the world through song.
This auditioned choir has performed around the globe and it's members are eligible to join the summer "Touring Ensemble."

Singers in Canterra Musica are eligible to participate in a Concert Tour each summer. Choristers Touring Choirs have performed at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland; Chartres Cathedral in Chartre, France; Sydney Opera House, Sydney, Australia; and many more historic venues. Our 2019-2020 tour is to Finland, Estonia, & Lativia.

Lisa Van Scyoc
Lisa Van Scyoc is a graduate of The Cleveland Institute of Music with a Master of Music in Vocal Performance. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Bowling Green State University. Lisa currently is a Student Teacher Supervisor on the Music Education faculty at Baldwin Wallace University. She recently was an Adjunct Faculty member of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and also served as Field Experience Coordinator. Lisa retired from teaching music in the Lakewood City Schools and was the Director of Music at Christ United Methodist Church in Cleveland for 24 years. Lisa was the Touring Choir accompanist from 2008-2010 and was the Cantate Musica Director from 2010 to 2017. This is her first season as the Canterra Musica Director. Lisa taught Music for Elementary Education Majors at Baldwin Wallace University from 1996-2002 and also enjoyed singing professionally with the Robert Page/Cleveland Singers from 1990-2003. Lisa is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, Ohio Music Educators Association, and the Cleveland Kodaly and Orff Chapters. She lives in Avon Lake where she teaches private voice lessons, accompanies for choral concerts, and is also the Vocal Music Director for the Avon Lake High School musicals.
Boys in Canterra Musica wear a specialized black dress shirt and tuxedo pants, black socks and plain black dress shoes (no colors, seqins, bows, etc). Black neck ties are provided at each concert. Girls in Canterra Musica wear specialized black gowns, black hose and black character shoes (1.5-2" heel). Sashes are provided at each concert.
Due to this choir's touring schedule, there are multiple informal uniforms. Detailed uniform lists are sent directly to singers in this choir.
Measuring and Ordering:
Singers are measured for uniforms in the fall. Uniform items are provided through Choristers and singer accounts are billed for purchased items. Used and new uniforms are available in most sizes.

Oberlin Choristers is committed to providing our outstanding programming to all interested singers and work to eliminate financial barriers. Through generous donations from our individual, corporate, and foundation sponsors, we are able to provide financial aid when needed.

Our Financial Aid is available to any singer that applies. If your singer qualifies for free or reduced lunches at school, then they are a great candidate for our financial aid award!
Financial Aid is awarded by a confidential subcommittee of our Board of Directors. They review all applications and award the amount based on the need. Please note, the non-refundable deposit cannot be covered by Financial Aid.
