Each year nearly 200 singers in grades 4-6 are recommended by their teacher to participate in this extraordinary event. Singers from school districts around Northeast Ohio join together in a day of singing, fun, and inspiration.

Honor Choir Schedule - March 29th, 2025
First UMC & Finney Chapel, Oberlin
8:45 a.m.         Teachers arrive at First UMC, Oberlin
9:00 a.m.         STUDENTS arrive at First UMC & check in with teacher 
(please see email with drop off instructions)
9:30 a.m.         Morning rehearsal at First UMC begins
10:30 a.m.       Snack
12:15 p.m.       LUNCH BREAK, walk 1 block to Finney Chapel
1:15 p.m.         Afternoon rehearsal
3:00 p.m.         Free Performance at Finney Chapel
Dress Code & What to Bring
  • Singers should wear dark blue jeans or pants and closed toe shoes. They will change into their Honor Choir t-shirt when they arrive.
 
  • All participants should bring a sack lunch and water bottle. 
Information & Detailed Timeline
Students pay a $50 participation fee at the time of registration. 
Each singer will receive choral scores for each piece to be performed.
 
November 1 – Deadline to confirm your school’s participation. Teachers complete our Participation Form to register their school.
 
November 8 – Teachers receive the number of singers you are permitted to select as well as online registration information to share with those families (Teacher's Invitation Letter). Teachers select the students they feel would best represent the school.
 
December – Student scores and teacher guidelines from the conductor will be mailed to schools. 
 
February 1 – Student registration deadline.
 
January – March – Rehearsals with singers. 
  • Teachers of participating schools meet with singers an average of 45 minutes a week.  Some schools break that up over several days (lunch/recess) and some meet before or after school. 
  • Teachers set a rehearsal schedule that works best for their singers.
  • Online recordings will be available to share with singers to help with the rehearsal process.
 
March 29, 2025 - Oberlin Choristers Children’s Honor Choir Day
  • Participating teachers must be present for the entire Honor Choir Day.  Teachers greet their students and observe and assist the guest conductor as needed throughout the day.
  • Parents join us at Finney Chapel at 3:00pm for a free concert!

Mr. Busarow holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Valparaiso University, a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from The Ohio State University, and Kodály Certification from the Kodály Institute at Capital University. Mr. Busarow also serves on the faculty of Purdue University Fort Wayne where he teaches voice and choral music education. He has also served as the interim director of choral studies at IPFW and Valparaiso University.

Mr. Busarow is in frequent demand as a clinician and as a tenor soloist. He has conducted at the American Choral Director’s Association National and Regional Conferences, the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, the Indiana Music Educators Association Convention, and the Bach Institute at Valparaiso University. Mr. Busarow serves as the Reading Session Chair for the American Choral Directors Association Central Division Conference. In 2015, he received the Arts United Award as the Emerging Leader. Valparaiso University awarded him the Distinguished Decade Award in 2018. He lives in Fort Wayne with his wife, Nicole, and their children, Simon, Matthias,Timothy, and Daniel.
