Growing Together: 30th Anniversary Season Plans

Season 2020-2021
Life is uncertain right now, and while we are unsure of when we will return to "normal," Oberlin Choristers has come up with several options for our 2020/2021 season. As always, we are striving to create meaningful, excellent musical experiences for our singers and families.

Throughout the past months, our choirs came up with creative ways to engage in music-making and keeping their communities together.  Students and parents remarked that they valued having a consistent connection to each other, and a place to belong and be accepted.  The singers enjoyed meeting visiting composers and asking them questions, participating in the online Social Distan-SING opportunities, and the virtual cabaret for our older singers. Our Cantate kids got to collaborate with students from Oberlin College over Zoom, and many of our singers played games and had social time far past their required meeting times!

These plans are designed to provide our singers and families with quality music education, technical singing advancement, and opportunities for community and growth as a strong and confident young people.

We want you to know, as a staff, we have carefully considered how we can achieve our standards of excellence, as well as provide a safe and meaningful way for our singers to learn and engage. While these plans are our hopes now, we will be monitoring national health guidelines and will remain flexible and in communication with you throughout the summer. We sincerely look forward to "seeing you" in the fall as we kick off our 30th anniversary season! Thank you for your support and for joining us in the fun that comes with this flexibility.

The Details

Plan A
Schools are opened back up in August (and it is safe to sing), and we kick off our 30th anniversary season!  We begin with choir retreats and bring-a-friend rehearsal nights.  Our younger choirs will perform at their Demonstration Concert in early December, and our annual Songs for the Season concert will include an Alumni choir, which will have special events throughout the weekend.  The spring semester will include a 30th-anniversary celebration concert in late-April, with all choirs and a special guest! We will have special workshops for each choir to work with this guest and a big party after the concert. Additional performances include “30 for 30,” opportunities for our choirs to perform a season total of 30 concerts (informal and formal) throughout our communities.  New for this year, ALL choirs will go on tour in the spring/early summer!

Coming together for social and emotional learning and engagement is what Choristers is about- whether in person or virtually, we are committed to high-quality experiences for your singer and family, no matter what the future holds.

Whatever the path- we sincerely hope you will join us!  We are also open to your suggestions and ideas.  If there is a way we can serve your family and singer, please let us know!
